The Paraguayan Foundation has launched a contest called “The Communicator-Entrepreneur” that will coincide with Global Entrepreneurship Week next week (see GEW Paraguay – Semana Global del Emprendedor). The goal of this contest is to increase awareness about the importance of entrepreneurship by encouraging participants to spread the word about entrepreneurship and the Foundation’s Entrepreneurship Education initiative through interviews, articles, and more. Suggested topics include: SMEs in rural and urban areas, how entrepreneurs have contributed to community development, and about the Paraguayan Foundation’s programs that promote entrepreneurship.

The African Leadership Academy (ALA) and Mastercard Foundation are seeking entries for the Anzisha Prize. The Anzisha Prize recognizes innovative, entrepreneurial solutions (for-profit and non-profit) to community challenges. $70,000 USD in prizes will be awarded, and eight finalists will win a trip to an entrepreneurship workshop at ALA in South Africa. The deadline to apply is 31 May 2011. Entrants must be between the ages of 15 and 20. The first prize will be awarded in August. See contest details and apply here.

This is just a brief note to update you on the latest from Global Innovation Game, which launched as the official game of Global Entrepreneurship Week. We recently concluded the first contest within the game, blending online game play with real world rewards and wanted to share that our first winners hail from Malaysia, Egypt and the UK!
During the week of GEW, players competed within GiG to claim the top spots in the game’s three categories – health, energy and transport. Those who posted the most innovative solutions to real life challenges earned the most support from their peers and the highest rankings.

This year, the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Enterprise and Industry will be hosting the second edition of the European Entrepreneurship Video Award.
The European Commission is inviting enterprising film lovers to produce a short video on the following questions:
What is entrepreneurship all about?
What could encourage people to become entrepreneurs?
What could counteract old prejudices and offer new visions of entrepreneurship?
The contest includes three different categories:
“Entrepreneurship – A different way of life”
“Entrepreneurship – Challenges and rewards”
